Watu Wetu Hospital entered into a public-private partnership with the Provincial Government of Lualaba by providing qualified personnel and viable infrastructure to house the molecular laboratory for the benefit of the entire population of Lualaba.

On Friday, September 10, 2021, the Vice-Minister of Public Health, Hygiene and Prevention, her Excellency Veronique Kilumba Nkulu, inaugurated the "Molecular Biology Laboratory" at Watu Wetu Hospital along with Mr. Mike Hammer, U.S. Ambassador in DRC and her Excellency Fifi Masuka, Interim Governor of Lualaba Province.

This molecular laboratory is an integral part of efforts by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to strengthen laboratory systems in three provinces of the DRC that are used to monitor the treatment effectiveness of HIV/AIDS patients. It will expand and improve access to safe, quality molecular HIV testing.
